Dano, often referred to as the mayor of Kernville, has a deep passion for the beauty and outdoor opportunities throughout the Kern River Valley. His love for fly fishing and teaching folks is outstanding and we are proud to have him on our team. Book a trip or class with Dano and find out about his gifted and unique way of teaching. 

Chiaki started fly fishing in 2004 with his first guided experience on the Kern River with Guy Jeans. He's been able to fly fish a variety of areas including New Hampshire for trout, New Orleans for redfish, San Diego for Mako sharks, LA River for carp and he does annual trips to Montana for big Missouri River browns. He considers his home waters to be the Kern River. He is a master rod builder and has built over 200 rods for friends and other charity and non- profit organizations. He has taught rod building classes to various fly clubs throughout southern California. He is also has been the President of the Southern Sierra Fly Fishers Club for the past 10 years. In 2014 his club won the prestigious International Federation FIy Fishers "McKenzie Cup" for being the most influential and best fly fishing club in the United States.

Sergio has been fishing the Southern Sierra and Kern River his entire life. Over the years, we have seen him become one of the true masters of the Kern River. When he's not at work, he is usually out fishing the many beautiful creeks and rivers throughout the Sierra, particularly the Kern River. The Kern River has a special distinction of being his “home waters” . The beautiful scenery, winding rapids, and the Kern River bows always keep Sergio “hooked.” Sergio is a member of Southern Sierra Fly Fishers Club and a Search and Rescue EMT and instructor with Kern Valley Search and Rescue. His humble approach to fly fishing and teaching others is a quality we appreciate here at Kern River Fly Shop. Next time you're in the shop and Sergio's there, make sure and say hi to him. Dane was born and raised in Bakersfield CA and has fished the Kern River area his entire life. He spends time fishing many destinations around the world. He is a true ambassador of our sport. 

Ryan has been fly fishing the Sierra Mountains for over 20 years.  He also enjoys fly fishing the harbors, bays, surf and break walls of southern California. He's been tying flies for over 20 years and professionally tying for the last 10 years. 

Guy Jeans is the CEO of Kern River Fly Shop and a Certified Casting Instructor (CCI) with Fly Fishers International (FFI). He guides, teaches, and lectures throughout the western United States and leads specialized fly fishing in the surf classes along the California coast.

In 2012, Guy received Fly Fishers International's prestigious Lee Wulff Award for his outstanding contributions to fly fishing education. He has fly fished extensively across the United States, Canada, Mexico and Kiribati, pursuing everything from alpine trout to saltwater game fish.

Guy is the former host of the acclaimed television series Sierra Fly Fishing and currently hosts the YouTube series Fish the West, where he shares fly fishing instruction, destination adventures, and conservation-focused content. He is also a published outdoor writer whose work has appeared in magazines and newspapers throughout the western United States.

A Sage Fly Fishing School instructor, Guy is supported by Sage Fly Rods and serves as a contract fly designer for Solitude Fly Company. His signature fly patterns—including the Kern Emergers and Carpilicious—are sold and fished internationally.

In addition to his work in fly fishing, Guy hosts the Guy Jeans Podcast, is the vocalist, keyboardist, and songwriter for the ska/reggae band Stoneflys, and consults for the film and television industry, helping productions create authentic fly fishing scenes while ensuring safety on the water.

Vincent Young started casting to trout at a very young age. Born and raised in Bakersfield he began fly fishing the Eastern sierras and kern river in 2012. He is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting upland birds and big game animals when he is not on the water hunting for trout. In 2020 he started spending the summer months catching carp on the fly on our local lake Isabella. He runs a flats style Jon boat sneaking along the shoreline stalking carp on hot summer days. Vincent is very knowledgeable when it comes to fishing the Kern and its surrounding bodies of water and is willing to teach and share his knowledge of fly fishing to anyone who is willing to listen. 

Daniel was born and raised in the Midwest. Fishing and camping were a huge part of his life growing up. After moving to California he discovered the Kern River, where he was introduced to fly fishing. Fly fishing has led him to many epic adventures all over the western United States. His favorite place to fish is his local waters the Kern River. After completing Guy Jeans Guide School in 2019 his skill level and knowledge received a big boost and has turned a hobby into more of passion. Now he loves sharing that passion with others and teaching beginner clinics with his fishy friends. When he’s not fishing he works as a white water raft guide and enjoys photography, rock climbing, camping, and most of all sharing these experiences with his son.

Paul Fuller began fly fishing during his first summer as a white water raft guide on the Kern River over 15 years ago. Since then he has cultivated his passion for native trout while working as an elementary school teacher, professional banjo player, custom wood worker and back-country chef.  His positive, friendly attitude and delicious dutch-oven enchiladas have been a welcomed addition to our 4x4 trips.

With a deep passion for all things fly fishing and fly tying, Rob can be found on any given weekend fishing from Southern California inshore waters to Pyramid Lake Nevada. When not guiding or fishing, he is usually tying flies  or spinning up some new ideas to try out on the water.
